Power Wheels Toys
Power Wheels toys have
been the subject of a couple safety recalls. In nineteen
ninety one the eighteen volt Porsche 911
power wheel ride on
toy was recalled because the contacts in the foot pedal
could fuse together when in forward motion. If this
occurred the vehicle would continue to move forward unable
to come to a stop. A new accelerator was fitted,
eliminating the possibility of fused contacts. In nineteen
ninety eight, Fischer Price undertook a massive, voluntary
recall of up to ten million twelve volt and super six volt
Power Wheels brand ride on toys manufactured since nineteen
eighty six. The recall and repair program was conducted to
replace Power Wheel battery
fuses and strengthen battery
connectors to prevent units from overheating. The main
difference between a post recall
Power Wheel ride on toy
and a pre recall Power Wheels brand toy is that the original
"H" type (or on very early
Power Wheel ride on toys, "S"
type) connectors are removed and replaced with the larger,
black "A" type connectors. If a
Power Wheels ride on was
built in or before nineteen ninety eight and has the Black
"A" type connectors, then the recall work has most likely
been performed.
Monster Trucks and on
road vehicles are not the only
Power Wheels brand toys out
there. If your child is an off road enthusiast there is the
ever popular Power Wheels
Lil Quad. The lil quad is a
realistic ATV with a top speed of five miles per hour. It
features oversized (thirteen and a half inch) tires, color
detailed shock covers, and a realistic handlebar
configuration with battery charge indicator. Children should
wear appropriate safety gear such as a helmet, knee, and
elbow pads when riding the Power Wheel
Quad. The Lil Quad
is modeled after its big brother, the Kawasaki KFX all
terrain vehicle.
The
Power Wheels Quad is
not the only off road style vehicle that Fischer Price makes
in the power wheel toy line. Power wheels also features a
line of John Deere ride on toys. They are miniature
models of the popular John Deere lawn tractors, and the even
more popular John Deere gator line. The John Deere
Gator toys are perfect for that child who loves to help out
around the yard, featuring things like fourteen inch tires,
a fully functioning dump bed, adjustable seats, and extreme
traction wheels with knobby treads.
Fischer Price has also
had success with miniature monster trucks, what little boy
hasn’t gone to a monster truck show and then imagined
themselves getting behind the wheel of one of those car
crushing giants? Grave Digger, one of the biggest and
baddest monster trucks on the circuit has inspired a whole
line of baby monster trucks, aptly named the Grave Digger
Power Wheel. This particular Power Wheels ride on toy
features a set of oversized tires, a “lifted” chassis,
realistic monster truck sounds, music, glowing red head
lights, and of course miniature toy cars to crush. The
grave digger power wheel ride on toy is only sold through
wal mart stores.
hink back to when you
were a young child, what was your favorite outside toy?
For me it was my power wheels brand ride on toy. There
was something awesome about being six years old and being
able to feel the exhilaration of cruising up and down the
open sidewalk in my mini jeep wrangler.
Power Wheels
is a brand of battery powered ride on toy cars for kids
between the ages of twelve months and seven years old.
Power
Wheels ride ons are built with kid sized, realistic features such as
real working fm radios, opening and closing doors and
hoods, power lock brakes, “secret” cargo compartments and
both forward and reverse motion.
Power Wheels ride on toys
have been on the market since nineteen eighty four,
originally manufactured by a company called Kransco toys of
San Francisco, California until nineteen ninety four, when
they were bought out by Mattel Toy Company. Since nineteen
ninety-four, Power Wheels have been manufactured by Fischer
Price in East Aurora New York. By the year nineteen ninety,
sales of Power Wheels toys were over one million units sold
per year.
In addition to
replicating popular adult vehicles,
Power Wheels toys have
had success in incorporating a few popular children’s themes
into their vehicles. When the Disney Pixar film Cars came
out, Fischer Price released a
Power Wheels ride on toy based
off Lightning McQueen, the movies star. Cars is not the
only children’s themed power wheel toy that has had success
either, the Dora the Explorer series has led to the
Power
wheels Dora line. There is a six volt Dora the Explorer
Volkswagen Beetle that seats one child, and a twelve volt,
two seat Jeep Wrangler. The Dora the Explorer Jeep Wrangler
has features like a working Fm radio, adventure map, an
included Dora backpack, and a rear cargo area to store the
treasures in. Fischer Price also has an entire line of
Barbie themed ride on toys.
Power Wheels ride on
toys all run off of either a six volt or twelve volt battery
that is included with purchase. Older model
Power Wheels
brand toys may have come equipped with an eighteen volt
battery. All Power Wheel toys are also sold with the
appropriate battery charger. Replacement
Power Wheel
batteries are available anywhere that Power Wheels toys are
sold, or can be ordered via the internet.
Power Wheels
toys that include fm radios or digital clocks will require
additional “C” batteries to power those features. A typical
charge on a Power Wheels battery lasts for about four to
five hours of riding time before needing a full charge.
Power Wheels batteries
should be charged at the minimum
once a month, even when the Power Wheel toy is not in use.
To get the maximum life out of your battery, follow all of
the care and charging instructions included in the owner’s
manual. Many Power Wheels owners recommend having a spare
battery on hand for those times when the charge inevitably
wears down. It is easier to swap the battery than to
explain to a child that the fun is over until the
power
wheels battery can be fully charged. When purchasing your
spare battery, ensure it is from the Fischer Price brand
Power wheels toy, and not another brand of power wheel toy.
Using the wrong battery can cause severe damage to the motor
and gear box, and off brand battery use is not covered in
the warranty.
Power Wheels ride on
toys have built in safety features that are standard on all
models. Each Power Wheels toy
is equipped with power lock
brakes and a high speed lock out for beginners. Some of the
larger power wheel ride on toys are equipped with seat
belts. Just like in a full size car, if your power wheel is
equipped with a seat belt it should be worn when the vehicle
is being operated. All
Power Wheels ride on toys have a
maximum weight limit. Large ride on toys have a maximum
weight limit of one hundred and thirty pounds for two
children. Small power wheels have a maximum weight limit of
sixty five pounds for one child.
Power Wheels ride on toys
should only be used under competent adult supervision, and
shoes should be worn at all times when operating a
Power
Wheel toy. Large
Power Wheel ride on toys are capable of
two and a half miles per hour in reverse, and between two
and half and five miles per hour in drive. Small power
wheels are capable of a maximum speed of three and a half
miles per hour in both forward and reverse. Proper safety
equipment should always be worn when operating motorized
ride on toys. Proper safety equipment includes, but is not
limited to, a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads.

Power Wheels has been
making kid size replicas of adult cars since being
manufactured under the Fischer Price brand. Some of the
most popular Power Wheels ride on toys include the jeep
wrangler, the Cadillac Escalade LTX, and the Harley
power
wheel. The Harley Davidson was introduced in nineteen
ninety nine, and led to a record year of sales for Fischer
Price. Some of the current miniature models of adult cars
being made under license by Power Wheels are; the Jeep
Wrangler, the Jeep Hurricane, the Ford F-150, The Ford
Mustang, and the Kawasaki KFX Quad.
Power Wheels
